How To Get a summer body
Summer is a few days away and we cannot wait to pull out those dresses we put away for winter. If you’re like me and you worked through winter to get your summer body then kudos to you. In case you didn’t it might be a little late to have the body you want at the start of the season but there’s still December, and we all know that’s the only month that matters anyway. You can still do it with the right amount of motivation and dedication.
For most of us a summer body means losing a bit of fat here and there. There are of course other people who are looking to bulk, regardless of what your goal is the foundation is good nutrition. I know it’s annoying and I for one wish I could just slave away in the gym and eat whatever I want, but we all know summer bodies are made in the kitchen and defined in the gym. If you can maintain a clean diet and exercise you will be there in no time.
Here are some of the ways you can get there as fast as possible.
Substitute processed carbohydrates for complex carbohydrates
Carbohydrates always get the raw deal whenever people talk about weight loss. The truth is your body needs carbohydrates to function. It is however a good idea not to overdo them. One of the ways to make carbohydrates work for you is to eat complex carbohydrates. These include vegetables, brown rice, beans, peas, oats and wheat.
The mistake people often make when they move over from simple to complex carbohydrates is keep the same portions or increase them. You still need to eat the right portion sizes to lose weight.
Add more vegetables to every meal
Vegetables are good for you, everyone knows that. They are also very filling.
Avoid take away, if you have to eat out choose healthier options
This is kind of a no brainer. Most take away food is deep fat fried. It also contains a lot of stuff that tastes good but does nothing for your health. If you can cut them out completely that would be great. If not choose healthier options.
Drink enough water
Another no brainer. Other than keeping you hydrated water also helps you lose weight in other ways. It also keeps you full and it has a total of zero calories. Try to drink at least 2 litres every day
Reduce your sugar intake by cutting out sodas and fruit juices, drinking plain tea or using sweeteners
I know I’ve already mentioned carbohydrates but sugar deserves its own special mention because if there is one thing that can derail your weight loss plans this is it. We eat a lot of added sugar and we are not even aware of it sometimes. 150g of low fat yoghurt can contain up to 5 teaspoons of sugar. This is why you do not need to add sugar to anything. You are already eating enough without being aware of it.
Last but not least is exercise. Go to the gym, take a walk, jog, whatever you can do just move more. It helps burn calories, keeps you fit and healthy and releases feel good hormones.
